Makeup and Beauty Trends For 2010

April 20th, 2010

Want to know the makeup and beauty trends for 2010? Discovering the makeup and beauty trends for 2010 will ensure you are fashion forward this year and looking your beautiful best. Fashions and styles trend in and out with what seems little sense to the uninitiated but the upcoming seasons beauty do’s are plain to see when you are keeping your finger on the pulse of the industry. So without further ado, let us take a look at what is to come for 2010.

Big Picture Beauty Patterns

Inspiration comes from a variety of sources for the beauty industry. Designers can often find design inspiration from nature, their friends, their city or from more intimate encounters. 2010 has inspiration coming from the individual, the beauty that comes from within, rather than without. So what does that mean for fashion and beauty? Behold…

1. The runway is being overrun by natural beauty inspired collections. Makeup is understated, and being used to call out the natural sparkle of the wearer. Designers are no longer calling for wild eye catching colors to call attention, but rather seeking warm and inviting looks that hold attention once found. As makeup is concerned, expect more beautifully bold eyebrows that are thick and youthful. There is no need for plucking and pain and instead spend your time puffing and colorizing. Textures will be light and used sparingly, highlights given just a flair of color to bring out the natural curves that can be found in the wearer’s bone structure. The real excitement with makeup this 2010 is going on with the eyes.

2. Eye makeup and shadow is your true chance to shine this year as the trending is making this the focus of your true understated beauty. Natural makeup to blend in, and bold vibrant, rich eye makeup to hold the focus of your attention. Dark smoky colors shades are in, and cats eye greens, grays and coal black eyeliner create the hint of allure and danger.

3. Beaded makeup used to add a touch of flair to offset the understated elegance of natural trends. Designers and models are falling in love with adding beads, typically reserved for jewelry, to their makeup tool kit. A well placed colored bead lightly placed high on the cheek bone or above the lip can create a beautiful brilliance that hints at all the personality held within the understated styles of the season. For the more gregarious, beading patterns set into wrist and top of the hand for special engagements is making a splash among celebrities as well. Think henna with beautiful light catching beads.

4. When it comes to lips this 2010, avoid bold colors and use the seductive classic colors of plum, wine dark reds, and lighter crimsons. The lips are being used to draw in your pray rather than to over power them. Attract them with the hints of the allures and emotions of she who resides beneath your strong and collected exterior.

5. The final beauty accessory making a comeback this coming season are the subtle custom jewelry pieces used to complement your overall makeup result. Highly personal unique pieces used to accentuate your style are all the rage, you can put your huge diamonds away this season as 2010 has custom self made jewelry with a style trumping expense.

How to Be a Cheap Green Beauty

March 21st, 2010

While it’s great that there are many natural and organic beauty products available nowadays, it’s still better for the environment and your pocketbook to avoid buying products you don’t need. Let’s focus on the “reducing” aspect of the equation. If you don’t NEED it, don’t buy it, even if it’s eco friendly. Here are some ways to be a “green” beauty.

Eliminate products you don’t need

Skipping beauty products you don’t really need means using less packaging and other resources. Here are some of the products you can probably do without.

Beauty and skin care experts agree that toner (or astringent) is not necessary. If you cleanse your face well and rinse well, you can skip the toner.

If you have oily skin you probably don’t need moisturizer, and if you have normal skin, your sunscreen might be enough of a moisturizer. All skin types should use a sunscreen daily. If your skin is dry, use the gentlest cleanser you can and you can get away with less moisturizer.

Most people, unless their skin is extremely oily, don’t need to wash their faces with a cleanser in the morning. Of course it goes without saying that you should thoroughly remove makeup and cleanse your face at night, but as long as you do this, your face is clean enough in the morning. Just splash with warm water then apply sunscreen.

Exfoliation is important for healthy and pretty skin, but you probably don’t need an expensive product. Use a very clean washcloth to gently scrub your face. Or put some baking soda in your hand and use that as a gentle scrub. Or sugar or salt mixed with a little olive oil. Olive oil makes a great eye makeup remover too.

Skip the allover foundation. Most people don’t need it all over their faces but just a little bit under the eyes and around the nose. Use a little tinted moisturizer instead or try mineral makeup, which makes your face look flawless and seems to last forever.

Skip certain steps in your beauty routine

If you curl your eyelashes you might be able to skip mascara and eyeliner. It opens up the eyes and really makes them pop. Keeping your brows groomed also shapes your face without needing a product. In addition to tweezing, try trimming the longer hairs that stick out after you comb your brows (use cuticle nippers).

Many hair care experts agree that most people wash their hair too often. Twice a week is enough. On the other days, you can rinse your hair and then reapply a small amount of styling product. Not washing your hair daily saves water and you will often find you won’t need conditioner and other products for the hair, as it will be easier to style with some of the natural oils intact.

Try multi use products

Dr. Loretta, author of “6 Weeks to Sensational Skin” says that dead sea salts have multiple uses for skin problems: everything from acne to eczema.

Body lotion or conditioner can double as shaving cream. You can even buy makeup that can be used for eyes, cheeks and lips.

Make your own green beauty products

Making your own skin care products usually means you’ll use far less packaging than if you bought everything. It doesn’t have to be super complicated though. You can mix honey and salt to make a body or facial scrub. Or sugar and olive oil. Lemon juice, salt and olive oil are great to exfoliate and bleach elbows and heels.

Learn to love your natural look

My sister has super thick, curly hair. The kind that, if it were long, would rest in ringlets down her back. The kind that other people spend $100 per perm to try and achieve. Now she has accepted her hair and decided not to fight nature, but when she was a teenager and everone had Farrah Fawcett wings, straight was the look. So she would spend money and time trying to chemically straighten her hair, which was mostly an exercise in futility!

Learn to accept your natural face. Freckles are cute and don’t have to be covered up. Curly hair is beautiful and doesn’t have to be straightened. Ask your hairdresser to help you choose a style that works with your facial shape and hair texture. The more you try to change your natural look the more money and time you’ll spend.

Fall 2008 and Winter 2009 Makeup and Beauty Trends

October 22nd, 2009

Glamour, femininity and the strong woman look will continue to be the top beauty trends for this fall and winter.

Purple is a top color for fall and makeup colors in purple and berry will be among the most popular.

The neutral face with emphasis on either the lips or the eyes continues to be in style with some trendy updates.

Lip colors are varied this season – red lipstick is back, along with rich berry lips, but neutral lips with pink, brown or peach colors are in also style and the best choice if you are emphasizing your eyes.

Speaking of eyes, the smoky eye look is still in fashion, maybe even stronger than ever. For the last few years the “toned down” smoky eye was in, this season all eye makeup is darker and bolder. Be prepared to see lots of black eyeliner. Eye shadows are moving away from the pastels and brighter colors back to earth tones and neutrals, but will be applied darker to create a stronger look. Even “cat eyes” are trendy right now (if you dare!). Don’t forget tons of black mascara or your favorite false eyelashes!

Gold and bronze colored cosmetics are one of the hottest newer trends, especially in eye shadows and nail polish. The other big nail color for the season is dark plum.

Heavier eyebrows are back in style, thin plucked eyebrows are out of style this fall.

Mineral makeup continues to be a top trend. The look for faces is natural and nude, mineral makeup is the choice of an every growing number of women for a natural look.

The top trendy hairstyles for fall are long – either straight or wavy, or super short. There is not much middle ground. The longer hair styles are also in style with a ponytail of loose bun.

Just pick you favorite trend for fall 2008 – red lips or dramatic eyes – and go for it! Just remember to keep everything else toned down so you do not look overly made up.
